Saudi Arabia Equipping Terrorists in Syria with WMDs: Analyst

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A prominent Syrian analyst slammed the Saudi regime for its military support for terrorist groups fighting against Syria’s government, saying that Riyadh has been equipping the militants with weapons of mass destruction (WMDs).

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Hassan al-Hassan, an expert of military and strategic affairs, pointed to the massive rocket attacks by the armed groups on civilians in Syria’s northern city of Aleppo, saying it is naive to say such attacks have been made by the terrorists alone and without any foreign support.

Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister had previously announced that his country will equip what he called “moderate opposition groups” with advanced missiles and rockets, the analyst noted.

Hassan went on to say that the attacks in Aleppo have been made concurrently with the third round of (UN-brokered) peace talks in Geneva as the Saudi-backed groups are attempting to impose some preconditions on the negotiations.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

Daesh (also known as ISIL), as a Takfiri group in Iraq and Syria, is believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.

According to a new report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
