Iraqi Army Kills Fallujah Leader, 35 Other Daesh Militants

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iraqi Army has killed 36 Daesh (ISIL) militants, including two commanders, one of whom headed the terrorist group in the city of Fallujah, the army’s information bureau said.

According to Baghdad’s command operations, “the so-called head of Fallujah, known as Haji Hamsa, and several of his aides were killed.”

“Moreover, Daesh commander Abu Amir Ansari was killed, and his aides were injured in the region of Albu Shajal,” the bureau said, Sputnik reported on Monday.

On Sunday, the Iraqi government deployed at least 20,000 troops to combat extremists in Daesh-held western city of Fallujah.

Simultaneously, the Iraqi armed forces issued a warning to the city’s civilian population to flee the city as soldiers prepared an operation to reclaim Fallujah.

Fallujah, in the western Anbar province, has been under Daesh’s control since 2014. Reports emerged recently that militants of the terrorist group began killing residents attempting to leave the city.
