Iranian, Norwegian FMs Meet in Oslo

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had a meeting with his Norwegian counterpart Borge Brende in Oslo on Monday for diplomatic talks.

Zarif arrived in Norway on Sunday night to partake in the 2016 edition of the Oslo Forum, an annual international conference of armed conflict mediators and peace process actors.

In the meeting on Monday morning, Zarif and Brende held talks about Tehran-Oslo bilateral ties and cooperation in the political, economic and banking fields.

The two senior diplomats also discussed the latest developments in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, and the ways to settle Syria’s crisis.

They held a joint press conference after the meeting.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Norway last night, Zarif said he is going to meet US Secretary of State John Kerry on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum meeting to discuss Washington’s commitments under the lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The Iranian top diplomat also plans to visit Berlin for a few hours for a meeting with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier to hold talks on various bilateral and regional issues.
