President Highlights Iran’s Strong Bond with Pakistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani hailed Pakistan as a “brother and friend” neighbor of Iran, pointing to two nations’ mutual interests in the region.

President Rouhani had a telephone conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday evening to wish him a speedy recovery from an open-heart surgery.

During the conversation, President Rouhani hailed the strengthening of Tehran-Islamabad relations in light of the prudence of Prime Minister Sharif.

“The Iranian and Pakistani nations have common interests in the region, and such fraternity and friendship is constantly growing,” he added.

Sharif, for his part, gave an assurance that Pakistan stands with Iran and is ready for broader interaction.

Islamabad is prepared to work with Tehran in all fields of mutual interest, Sharif underscored.

Mr. Sharif, 66, underwent four bypasses on Tuesday at a hospital in London. It was the second open-heart operation for the Pakistani premier, who has been treated for heart problems over the past five years.
