Ambassador Urges Interaction between Iranian, Turkish Think Tanks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to Ankara called for close partnership between Iranian and Turkish think tanks to figure out appropriate solutions to regional crises and find remedies for extremism.

The Iranian envoy, Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian, held a meeting with a group of political science professors at Turkish universities and representatives of a number of Turkish think tanks.

Pointing to the crises that have gripped the Middle East, the threat of extremism in particular, Taherian stressed the need for interaction between Iranian and Turkish think tanks to address the problems, remove obstacles to regional peace and stability, and eliminate barriers to expansion of Tehran-Ankara ties.

Slamming extremism as the most serious problem in the region and the world, the ambassador also called on the think tanks to focus on certain countries; mistake of employing extremism as a tool to achieve short-term objectives.

Taherian argued that the very supporters of extremist groups will eventually fall victim to extremism and will have to pay dearly for backing the notorious groups.

Back in May, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also expressed deep concern over the spread of terrorism and extremism across the world, describing the phenomenon as a common threat to all nations.

“We are all sitting in the same boat and nobody can escape from the reality and we should accept that fates of all of us are integrated” he said.
