President Hopes for Closer Iran-Montenegro Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated the people and government of Montenegro on the National Day of the small Balkan country and expressed the hope that bilateral relations between the two nations would expand in all areas.

In a message to Montenegro’s President Filip Vujanovic, which was released on Wednesday, President Rouhani congratulated him on the European country’s Statehood Day and hoped that Tehran-Podgorica ties would be strengthened in all spheres.

He also wished Vujanovic health and success and the people of Montenegro prosperity and progress.

Montenegro’s Statehood Day is a holiday that is celebrated on July 13 every year to commemorate the day in 1878 on which the Berlin Congress recognized Montenegro as the twenty-seventh independent state in the world.

On this same date in 1941, the people of Montenegro began the uprising against the Germans.
