Spokesman Rejects Bahrain’s ‘Baseless’ Claims against Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi dismissed as “repetitive and unfounded” recent claims by the Bahraini regime against the Islamic Republic, urging the Manama regime to address its domestic problems instead of raising allegations against Tehran.

In remarks released on Wednesday, Qassemi rejected as “repetitive, false and baseless” a statement by the Bahraini interior ministry about links between Iran and some individuals arrested on charges of planting a bomb in the Arab country.

He further called on the Manama regime to resolve its domestic problems “at source” and learn from past lessons instead of “repeating such unfounded allegations and adopting previously-tested futile approaches”.

“Unfortunately, the Bahraini government’s objective behind raising such false and fabricated allegations is to divert attentions from its domestic crisis and escape public accountability,” he went on to say.

Bahraini security forces recently announced they have arrested two suspects on charges of planting a bomb in East Eker, which led to the killing of a woman.

The blast occurred on a road as the woman with her children passed in her car in the village south of Manama, on June 30.

The Persian Gulf island country’s interior ministry has accused Iran of having links with the suspects, according to media reports.

Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations.

Amnesty International and many other international rights organizations have frequently censured the Bahraini regime for the rampant human rights abuses against opposition groups and anti-regime protesters.
