Iran Advances to FINA World Water Polo Junior Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran finished in third place of the 5th Asian Water Polo Junior Championship.

On Monday, the Iranian team defeated Uzbekistan 15-9 and finished in the third place in the tournament with five points.

Iran started the campaign with a 13-10 defeat against Kazakhstan. The team was held to a 12-12 draw against title-holder Japan and defeated host Indonesia 19-13.

Aleksandar Ciric’s boys lost to China 12-10 in their fourth match.

The tournament brought six countries Indonesia, Iran, China, Japan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan together.

Japan finished in the first place with nine points, followed by China with eight points.

The top three teams advanced to the FINA World Junior Championship (20 years & under) in 2017.
