Iran Condemns Terrorist Attack in Afghan Capital

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi strongly condemned a Monday bomb attack on a military and logistics services compound in the Afghan capital of Kabul, calling for global efforts to uproot “the inauspicious phenomenon” of terrorism.

“Unfortunately, nowadays terrorism has turned out to be a popular commodity in the market of political dealers in the region and the willful negligence of international players on the inauspicious phenomenon has boosted the market more than ever,” Qasemi said on Monday.

He further emphasized that all founders and supporters of terrorist groups in the region are to blame for “the unbridled wave of violence and terror”.

A real fight against terrorism would not be possible with double-standard approaches of some countries toward the issue and without a global resolve, the Iranian spokesman stressed.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the truck bomb attack in Kabul early on Monday after a powerful explosion was heard all around the city.

Casualties seem to have been limited despite the unusually loud blast from the explosion at around 1:30 a.m. (local time), according to media reports.

Kabul police Chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi said the incident ended with one attacker killed when his vehicle detonated and two other attackers killed by police. One police officer was killed and four were wounded.
