Egypt Coach El Shemerly Bemoans Shortage of Players

RIO (Tasnim) – Egyptian national volleyball team's coach Sherif El Shemerly bemoaned the shortage of players in the match against Iran.

Iran downed Egypt 3-0 (28-26, 25-22, 25-16) in Pool B on Saturday, to advance to the quarterfinals of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games men’s volleyball competition at Maracanazinho.

“We started the match well, we played hard in the beginning to stay in the game. We played well in the first set and we were at par with the other side. We also tried very hard in the second set, but they still ended up winning the set at 25-22,” El Shemerly said.

“We lost another player because of injury. I could not do anything much because there is already a shortage of players on my end."

"We committed a lot of mistakes in the last set with our defence and attack. Iran had better concentration and they played better transition and counter-attack. They also played better defence than us,” he added.
