Syrian Army General Calls Liberation of 1070 Buildings First Stage of Aleppo Battle

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A high-ranking official at the Syria Army said the liberation of buildings of the 1070 housing development project in Aleppo from the foreign-backed terrorists is a prelude to the “great battle of Aleppo”.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Major General Haitham Khalil pointed to a recent achievement made by the Syrian troops and allied forces to retake some buildings in the 1070 housing project, saying that about 90 percent of the housing sites, particularly those near to military academies, have been liberated from terrorists and come under the control of the Army.

The recapture of the buildings came after the attack of terrorists in the district was repelled and the military academies came under heavy fires from the Syrian Army, he noted.

“What the Syrian Army did is considered as a kind of preparation and the first stage of the great battle of Aleppo,” the commander said.

Earlier on Sunday, the Syrian government forces captured some buildings in the 1070 housing development, located near the entrance to the rebel corridor into Aleppo.

Syrian Army troops backed by allied forces are fighting to recapture the strategic city from the foreign-backed terrorist groups.

The security forces encircled Aleppo on July 17 after closing off the last terrorist-controlled route into the city.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
