Syrian Forces Recapture Key Hilltop in Aleppo

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syrian army forces, backed by volunteer forces, engaged Takfiri militants in the northwestern city of Aleppo, liberating a strategic hilltop from the extremists.

According to Tasnim dispatches, Syrian soldiers and their allies launched an operation against foreign-backed terrorists south of Aleppo on Tuesday evening, and managed to wrest control over Umm al-Qar’ Hill.

The hill was liberated after heavy clashes and exchange of fire between the Syrian troops and the militants.

A military expert told the Tasnim News Agency that the recapture of the key hilltop will pave the way for the Syrian army to liberate the Arab country’s military academies in Aleppo as well.

He added that it will also help the Syrian forces to block a road leading to Khan Touman, which the terrorists use for delivering aid as well as launching attacks against the army troops in southwestern Aleppo.

Syrian Army troops backed by allied forces are fighting to recapture the strategic city of Aleppo from the terrorist groups.

The security forces encircled Aleppo on July 17 after closing off the last terrorist-controlled route into the city.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
