Syrian Forces Repel Terrorists’ Attack on Northeast of Damascus
DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syrian Army troops backed by allied forces managed to repel a massive attack by foreign-backed terrorists on a neighborhood in northeast Damascus, killing dozens of the militants.
According to Tasnim dispatches, militants from the Faylaq Al-Rahman terrorist group mounted an attack on the positions of the Syrian forces in Jobar in the northeast of Damascus on Monday, which was completely repelled.
A military source said the terrorists’ attack failed, rejecting reports claiming that militants of the Faylaq Al-Rahman have advanced toward the position of the Syrian forces.
In another development, the Syrian troops managed to take control over some parts of Eastern Ghouta on the outskirts of Damascus.
Syrian Army troops backed by allied forces have made major advances against foreign-backed terrorist groups in the country in the past few months.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
