President Applauds Iranian Olympic Athletes

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani praised the country’s athletes who took part in the Rio Olympic Games for bringing glory to the country and displaying Iranian self-confidence and moral values.

In a message on Wednesday, President Rouhani praised all the Iranians attending the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, including the athletes, coaches and referees.

He also appreciated the country’s heroes for winning the hearts of Iranian people despite cases of unfair refereeing.

The president also hailed 18-year-old taekwondo player Kimia Alizadeh as a young lady who became the symbol of the presence of Iranian women in the games.

Alizadeh won the bronze medal in the -57kg class of taekwondo competitions, becoming the first Iranian woman to win an Olympic medal.

Iran finished 25th in Rio 2016 Olympics with 8 medals (three gold, one silver and four bronze).
