Iranian Armed Forces Gearing Up for Commemorative Parades

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Armed Forces will stage military parades across the country next week to commemorate the Sacred Defense Week, which marks the anniversary of the onset of an Iraqi imposed war on Iran 36 years ago.

While the most impressive ceremony is expected to be held in Tehran -at the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini, the IRGC has also arranged a large-scale parade in the Persian Gulf port city of Bandar Abbas.

Head of the IRGC Public Relations Department General Ramezan Sharif has announced that the IRGC Navy will be in charge of the ceremony in Bandar Abbas, noting that various units of the IRGC as well as the Army, Police and Basij (voluntary) Forces will march in the parade.

The purpose of the parade in the coastal city is to demonstrate Iran’s dominance over the Persian Gulf waters and the deterrent power of the Iranian Armed Forces, he added.

Every year, in late September, the Iranian Armed Forces attend parades to honor the Sacred Defense Week in remembrance of the martyrs in the eight-year war imposed by Iraq in the 1980s.
