US Playing Games with Terrorism: Iran’s Larijani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani decried the US for lacking the will to combat terrorism, saying Washington is rather employing terrorist groups to achieve its objectives in the Middle East.

Addressing a provincial meeting in the city of Qom on Monday, Larijani said the so-called US-led coalition, involving 60 US partners, have been ostensibly combatting terrorism in Iraq for two years but have gained nothing.

It is not clear how long it would have taken for the US-led military coalition to liberate the Iraqi city of Fallujah without the Iraqi voluntary forces’ involvement and without Iran’s support, he added.

“Today, a broad international current is seeking to sustain terrorism in the region, while they are lying about their intention to counter terrorism,” Larijani further said.

Back in July, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei took a swipe at the global arrogant powers, spearheaded by the US, for provoking regional conflicts to make Israeli occupation of Palestine fade into oblivion.

The root causes of wars, insecurity and terrorism in the region and in the Islamic world are the arrogant powers, with the US at the top, Ayatollah Khamenei said at the time.

The Leader also decried insincere claims about fighting terrorism, saying that world powers are “supporting and fostering terrorism in practice.”
