Iran, Malaysia Resolved to Boost Banking Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak called for the expansion of bilateral trade ties by immediate removal of the obstacle to banking interaction.

In a meeting of high-ranking delegations from Iran and Malaysia, held in in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, President Rouhani and Prime Minister Razak focused on the efforts to revive economic ties, with both highlighting the need for easier bank connections.

Pointing to the ample investment opportunities available for the private sectors of the two countries, President Rouhani said Iran and Malaysia can facilitate each other’s access to markets in West and East Asia.

For his part, the Malysian premier described banking cooperation as a key to enhanced business ties, stressing the need for efforts to double the volume of bilateral trade.

They also discussed the latest developments in the region, united action in the fight against terrorism, and collaboration in a host of industries, mainly oil and gas.

Heading a political and economic delegation, President Rouhani embarked on a tour of Southeast Asia on Wednesday that first took him to Vietnam.

He will later fly to Thailand to attend the 2nd Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Summit.
