Iran’s Siamand Rahman Voted Best Male Athlete of the Month

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian powerlifter Siamand Rahman has been voted by the public as the Allianz Best Male Athlete of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Prior to Rio 2016, Rahman's mark stood at 296kg and he was determined to reach 300kg. He did not disappoint, clearing the bar at 305kg for the gold medal. He then followed that up with a final world-record lift of 310kg, the equivalent of two baby elephants or a Siberian tiger. Paralympic.org wrote.

Rahman received 64 per cent of the public votes. Colombian swimmer Carlos Serrano was second with Belarusian swimmer Ihar Boki third.

Also nominated were Swiss wheelchair racer Marcel Hug, Belgian table tennis player Laurens Devos and Australian wheelchair tennis player Dylan Alcott.

In lieu of the IPC Athlete of the Month award for September, the honor is being separated into three different categories – Best Male Athlete, Best Female Athlete and Best Team – based on results at Rio 2016.
