Syria Army Targets Terrorists’ Positions in Aleppo after Truce End

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Fierce clashes broke out between the Syrian army and Takfiri militants in the Arab country's embattled northwestern city of Aleppo after a truce announced by Russia came to an end.

According to Tasnim dispatches, the Syrian troops clashed with the Takfiri terrorists late on Saturday after the militants launched an offensive against residential areas in Aleppo.

The clashes came after the ceasefire expired on Saturday evening, after a one-day extension on Friday. The truce was aimed at permitting civilians and foreign-sponsored militants to leave the eastern areas of the city.

The response by the Syrian army came after the terrorists bombed the El Castillo road in Aleppo.

Additionally, Syrian warplanes heavily pounded the terrorists’ positions as well as a missile depot belonging to the Jaish al-Fath Takfiri group in southern Aleppo.

Aleppo, Syria’s second largest city, has been divided between government forces in the west and the militants in the east since 2012. In an attempt to free the trapped civilian population and to end the militants’ reign of terror in the east, the Syrian army, backed by Russian fighter jets, began a major offensive on September 22.
