Syrian Army Regains Control over Military Base South of Aleppo

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian army regained full control over the air defense military base in the south of Aleppo, following the heavy fighting with terrorists, according to a source.

The Syrian Army liberated the territory of a military base, situated in the South of the Syrian city of Aleppo, a local military source told RIA Novosti on Sunday.

"Syrian army regained full control over the air defense military base in the south of Aleppo, following the heavy fighting with terrorists," the source said.

According to the source, engineering units are already working at the scene to demine the territory.

The army’s offensive started early on Sunday.

Numerous terrorist groups, including Daesh (ISIL) and Al Nusra Front fight with government forces to maintain control over Aleppo.

On Thursday, the Russian and Syrian governments agreed to stop airstrikes on fighters controlling parts of the city to ensure the safe evacuation of civilians from eastern Aleppo via eight designated corridors.

On Friday, the humanitarian pause in Aleppo has been extended for one more day, from 08:00 to 19:00 local time on October 22, however UN failed to evacuate citizens amid safety reasons and continued fighting.
