Syrian Army Inflicts Heavy Casualties on Terrorists in Western Aleppo

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian army troops backed by allied forces managed to repel a large-scale offensive carried out by foreign-backed terrorists on Western Aleppo to break the siege on the strategic city, killing dozens of the militants.

According to Tasnim dispatches, heavy clashes erupted on Thursday between Syrian forces and terrorist groups in Menian in western Aleppo after the militants mounted a massive attack on the army forces.

During a counteroffensive, the Syrian forces also destroyed two car bombs of terrorists and killed dozens of them.

The terrorists launched the attack to break the government’s nearly two-month siege of the rebel-held neighborhoods in eastern Aleppo.

Syrian Army troops are fighting to recapture the strategic city from the foreign-backed terrorist groups.

The security forces encircled Aleppo on July 17 after closing off the last terrorist-controlled route into the city.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
