General Warns Iraqi Kurdistan against Facilitating Anti-Iran Activities

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A top military aide to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei cautioned the Barzani ruling family in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region of Iraq against any green light for Saudis to arm anti-Iranian groups in the region.

“We warn the Barzanis (against) permitting the Saudi consulates in northern Iraq to supply weapons to anti-Iranian Revolution (groups),” Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi said at a press conference on Monday.

Reminding the Iraqi Kurds of their Aryan origin and Iranian roots, the major general said the Barzani family should not forget that “they are indebted to Iran.”

The Iraqi Kurds should be mindful that if they enter political games against Iran, then they should not expect any more help from Tehran, he underscored.

Masoud Barzani, president of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), in a visit to Tehran in 2014, had expressed gratitude to Iran for standing by the Iraqi Kurdistan and its people in hard days.

“Iran stood by Erbil in those hard days when the Daesh (ISIL terrorist group) was threatening the Iraqi Kurdistan,” he said at a meeting with Iran’s parliament speaker in December 2014.
