Danish Diplomat Deplores Humanitarian Crises in Syria, Yemen
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Denmark’s State Secretary for Foreign Policy Lone Dencker Wisborg voiced concern about dire humanitarian situation affecting people of Syria and Yemen, calling for immediate delivery of aids to the war-stricken countries.
In a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari in Tehran on Tuesday, Wisborg expressed concern about the humanitarian situation in Syria and Yemen.
Emphasizing the need for facilitated delivery of humanitarian aid to people in those two countries, the Danish diplomat described a ceasefire in Syria as an urgent priority, calling for political settlement of the conflict.
For his part, the Iranian deputy foreign minister attributed lingering crises in the Middle East region to foreign interference.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
Tehran insists that the Syrian nation is the only side that has the right to shape the future of its own country, rejecting foreign intervention with the use of force.
