Slovakia Eyes Closer Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Slovakian President Andrej Kiska voiced his country’s willingness to expand relations with Iran, which he hailed as the Middle East’s leading economic power.

Slovakia is very eager to enhance ties with Iran, Kiska said at a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Bratislava on Thursday.

Describing Iran as a great country with a leading economy in the region, the Slovak president also hailed Tehran’s significant role in security and stability in the Middle East.

He further said the growing relations between Iran and the European Union are on the right track.

For his part, Zarif called for the enhancement of economic cooperation and joint investment betweeb the two countries, pointing to a big economic delegation accompanying him in the trip to East Europe.

He also hailed good cooperation between Iran and the EU on regional and international issues, describing Slovakia as a suitable partner for consultations given its rotating presidency of the EU.

The Iranian foreign minister is in Bratislava in the second leg of a tour of East Europe that took him earlier to Romania.

He is scheduled to visit the Czech Republic afterwards.
