Iran Condemns Attack on Germany’s Afghan Consulate

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned a bombing attack by the Taliban terrorist group on the German consulate in the Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif that killed and wounded more than a hundred people.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi expressed condolences on Friday to the families of victims of the major assault, which occurred late Thursday.

He also reminded the international community of its responsibility to fight off terrorism and brutal activities by the Takfiri groups.

Qassemi further described attacks on diplomatic sites in Afghanistan as a testimony to links between perpetrators of the terrorist assaults and enemies of the Afghan nation.

The terrorist groups and their supporters appear to be favoring the increased presence of foreign forces in Afghanistan, he deplored.

Death toll from the powerful truck bombing has risen to at least six, with more than 100 others wounded. However, all German staff from the consulate were unharmed.

The Taliban has said the bombing, which tore a massive crater in the road and overturned cars, was a "revenge attack" for US airstrikes this month in the province of Kunduz that left 32 civilians dead.
