China’s Defense Minister Makes Visit to Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chinese Minister of National Defense General Chang Wanquan arrived in Tehran on Sunday for an official visit.

The top Chinese military official is in Iran for a three-day visit at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan.

A formal welcome ceremony is scheduled for Monday, when the two defense ministers are expected to hold talks.

Iran and China will reportedly sign an agreement on defense and military cooperation tomorrow.

Tehran and Beijing have close diplomatic, economic, trade and energy ties, and in recent years have developed their military relations as well.

In May 2014, the Iranian defense minister paid an official visit to China to negotiate mutual visits and personnel training cooperation between the two countries.
