TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Taliban fighters gained control of a police headquarters in Bakwa district in Afghanistan’s western province of Farah on Thursday night, killing more than 20 police forces and security officials, the group announced in a statement.

According to the militant group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, six Taliban members entered Bakwa police headquarters on Thursday night and seized the building after heavy exchange of gunfire for an hour and a half.

More than 20 Afghan security forces, including officials, were killed in the raid, he announced in a statement.

Located near Afghanistan’s western borders, Bakwa is believed to have been used as a base by Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group for training suicide bombers and creating insecurity near the Iranian border.

Meanwhile, Tolo News quoted Security Chief at Farah Police Headquarters Mohammad Ghaws Malyar as saying that Taliban have killed 13 policemen and taken away their weapons.

Unconfirmed reports also suggest that three police members joined the Taliban following the attack.
