UN Chief Urges All Parties to Honor Iran Deal

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on all sides to the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Actions) to abide by their commitments if they want the deal to yield the best result.

"I believe that this agreement by P5+1… that was a robust agreement… We have to respect this agreement,” he told CNN on Monday.

He added, “I have been discussing this matter with Iranian authorities and they are also concerned that… if there are any changes or any disruptions of the process of this agreement then it will take much-much longer time (to implement the deal).”

His remarks came after US President-elect Donald Trump said he might tear up the nuclear deal.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), reached the comprehensive nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in July 2015 and implemented it in January 2016.

In a speech to the pro-Israeli lobby group AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) in March, Trump declared that his "number-one priority” would be to "dismantle the disastrous deal with Iran."

After Trump's winning the election, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran expects the new US administration respect the nuclear deal.
