Indonesia Seeking Iran's Investment in Its Oil Projects
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Indonesian oil official said Jakarta has asked Iran to invest in the Southeast Asia country’s oil projects.
"We have asked (Iran) to invest either in Bontang refinery (in East Kalimantan) with (state-owned oil and gas firm) Pertamina or establish its own refinery as we already allow 100 percent (foreign) ownership in the business," Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry director general for oil and gas IGN Wiratmaja Puja said on Monday, The Jakarta Post reported.
He added that the request had been conveyed to Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi during his recent visit to Indonesia.
"Should Iran invest in refineries here, it can supply the refineries with its crude oil," Wiratmaja said.
In May, Iran clinched a deal with Indonesia to sell the Southeast Asian country 80,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
In June, Indonesia’s Oil and Gas Director General Wiratmaja Puja said the country’s state energy company Pertamina plans to sign a deal to purchase a stake in an oil and gas block in Iran.
