A Daesh militant detonated a tank truck he was driving in the east of Iraqi Mosul, killing at least 24 people and injuring dozens more, local media reported on Saturday, citing a source in the law enforcement agency.
There are women and children among the civilians killed in the attack that occurred earlier on Saturday, the source told the Shafaq news agency, Sputnik News reported.
According to the security forces, the terrorists could have staged the attack on civilians in retaliation for their cooperation with the military.
Mosul, the second biggest Iraqi city, as well as a number of other northern and western Iraqi cities and towns were seized in 2014 during a Daesh offensive. On October 17, the Iraqi army and popular forces launched the operation to retake Mosul from Daesh.
