Iran’s Salehi to Attend IAEA Meeting on Nuclear Security

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi traveled to Austria on Sunday to participate in the second International Conference on Nuclear Security, planned to be convened by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.

Heading a delegation, Salehi is scheduled to read out Iran’s statement to the conference on Monday morning.

The “International Conference on Nuclear Security: Commitments and Actions” will be held in Vienna from December 5 to 9.

The first edition was held by the IAEA in July 2013.

The conference comprises a ministerial segment as well as a scientific and technical program, which together will provide a timely global forum to discuss current progress and future developments in strengthening nuclear security globally.

The ministerial segment will provide an opportunity for ministers to share their national perspectives related to nuclear security and is expected to adopt a Ministerial Declaration on Monday, according to IAEA’s website.

The 2nd conference is expected to include a greater level of ministerial participation than the 2013 meeting, which attracted representatives from 34 IAEA member states at the ministerial level.
