"We feel that the Russian participation that is taking place in Syria is very important and actions, that have to be taken in Syria, have to be taken in accordance with the UN resolutions and in accordance with the wishes of the government of Syria and the people of Syria through the dialogue which is inclusive and that is a position that we have conveyed to the international community and to the Russian Federation," Saran told Sputnik.
Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting the Syrian opposition groups striving to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad. Damascus is also fighting numerous extremist groups, in particular Daesh, a terrorist group outlawed in many countries. Russia began its anti-terrorist aerial campaign in September 2015 at the request of President Bashar al-Assad.
