Iran’s Deputy FM, Lebanese PM Discuss Expansion of Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari and Lebanon’s Prime Minister Saad Hariri explored avenues for boosting the relations between the two countries in different fields.

After the meeting in the Lebanese capital Beirut on Thursday evening, Jaberi Ansari told reporters that his talks with Hariri were “good and useful”.
He said he congratulated the Lebanese premier on the inauguration of the national unity government during the meeting.

Jaberi Ansari added that the talks revolved around regional issues and bilateral ties and the need for development of cooperation between Tehran and Beirut in all areas, economy in particular.

“I hope that the start of Mr. Hariri’s premiership and launch of the new Lebanese government will have positive effects at the regional level and we will also witness a new chapter in the collaborations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Lebanon in various fields,” the Iranian diplomat said.

Jaberi Ansari further hailed Lebanon as “a good example of peaceful coexistence” among different tribes, religions and political and social groups in the past decades and a good regional model in this regard.

The Iranian official is scheduled to meet with other senior Lebanese political officials on Friday.

He arrived in Lebanon after a visit to Damascus, where he met separately with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Prime Minister Imad Khamis and Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem.
