In a statement on Friday, the Air Defense Base said the unmanned aerial vehicle, which had entered Tehran’s airspace without coordination and permission, was shot down by the anti-craft forces in a central district of the capital.
The statement came after residents in central Tehran said they had heard a loud explosion.
After looking into the issue, the downed drone appeared to have been a quadcopter operated by a film crew shooting aerial footage for a documentary, it added.
Meanwhile, Tehran’s Deputy Governor General for Security Affairs Mohsen Hamedani hailed the vigilance and alertness of the country’s armed forces in an interview with the Tasnim News Agency, saying the quadcopter was shot down in accordance with related rules and procedures.
According to the official, those using the quadcopter for filming did not know the area was prohibited airspace.
He went on to say that remains of the downed quadcopter have not been found yet.
