Iran Ready to Undertake Development Projects in Kyrgyzstan: President Rouhani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani highlighted the great capacities of the country’s companies, saying that they are ready to implement development projects in Kyrgyzstan.

Speaking at a meeting with Kyrgyz Prime Minister Sooronbay Jeenbeko in Bishkek on Friday, President Rouhani said the Islamic Republic attaches great significance to ties with its neighbors in Central Asia, stressing the need to utilize the current capacities to boost cooperation between Iran and Kyrgyzstan.

He further emphasized that despite close political and cultural ties between the two countries, the level of economic ties does not fit the capacities of the two sides.

“Today, Iranian firms participate in international tenders and implement various projects with reasonable price and superior quality,” Rouhani noted, highlighting Iranian companies’ readiness to provide technical and engineering services and implement development projects in Kyrgyzstan.

Earlier in the day, high-ranking officials from Iran and Kyrgyzstan inked five documents to boost cooperation between the two countries in various areas.

The documents include a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between Iran’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Central Asian country’s State Committee of Information Technologies and Communications.

The other documents signed by the two countries focus on enhancement of bilateral collaborations in the fields of health and medicine, culture and arts, social affairs, and combating narcotics trafficking.

Heading a high-ranking political and economic delegation, President Rouhani visited Kyrgyzstan on the final leg of a tour of the Caucasus and Central Asia that earlier took him to Armenia and Kazakhstan.
