The Syrian army on Monday killed 25 Daesh terrorists in the 4th Station district, west of Palmyra, after launching a major attack against them in a Homs countryside, the official SANA news agency reported.
The report added it came following violent clashes between the army and Daesh terrorists east of the oil-pumping station. A number of the terrorists’ vehicles were also destroyed during the operation.
Separately, army troops targeted a gathering of leaders of the Takfiri Jabhat Fateh al-Sham militant group, formerly known as al-Nusra Front, in the surroundings of al-Rastan city in the province’s northern countryside, killing a number of the terrorist group's ringleaders.
Daesh overran the town in May last year, and systematically destroyed temples and tower tombs at the town’s UNESCO World Heritage site, before being pushed out by government forces and their allies.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
