Syria Army Deals Heavy Blows to Daesh in Homs, Deir Ez-Zor

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies continued to make gains against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in Homs and Deir ez-Zor, killing and injuring scores of them.

On Sunday, the Syrian army troops targeted the positions of Daesh terrorists in the areas of Arshouna, al-Fawaera, and al-Qaryatain in Homs, Syria's official news agency, SANA, reported.

Dozens of the Takfiri militants lost their lives in the process of the operation.

Also, several of their vehicles equipped with heavy machine guns were destroyed in the clashes.

Separately, the Syrian government forces inflicted heavy losses on the terrorist group in the eastern city of Deir ez-Zor after shelling its positions in the areas of al-Sina’a and al-Jbaileh.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
