On Monday, Syrian forces targeted a gathering center of Daesh terrorists in east of the Fourth station in western Palmyra, killing tens of them and destroying a number of their vehicles, a military source told Syria’s official news agency, SANA.
Separately, the Syrian army carried out an attack on al-Qaeda-linked militants in the western province, killing a number of terrorists, including senior leaders.
An army unit bombarded a gathering of militants from the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham terrorist group, formerly known as al-Nusra Front, in the village of Um Sharshouh, about 18 kilometers north of the city of Homs, killing a number of them and injuring several others.
The report said key leaders from the Takfiri group were killed in the army attack, including the chief of its mortar brigade. SANA said two other notable terrorists were also among those killed while mortar launchers and machine gun-equipped vehicles belonging to the group were destroyed during the attack.
Syria has been the scene of a foreign-backed crisis since early 2011.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
