Syrian Forces Continue to Hunt Down Terrorists in Homs

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies continued to press ahead with their hunt for Takfiri terrorists in Homs, killing a number of them in the western province.

On Tuesday, Syrian forces targeted gathering centers of the Takfiri Jabhat Fateh al-Sham terrorist group, formerly known as al-Nusra Front, with mortar rounds in the areas of Mahatta and Jawalek in the northern countryside of Homs, Syria’s official news agency, SANA, reported.

Several terrorists were killed and a number of their vehicles destroyed in the shelling.

On Monday, the Syrian army also carried out an attack on the al-Qaeda-linked militants in the western province, killing a number of terrorists, including senior leaders.

An army unit also bombarded a gathering of Jabhat Fateh al-Sham terrorists in the village of Um Sharshouh, about 18 kilometers north of the city of Homs, killing a number of them and injuring several others.

Key leaders from the Takfiri group, including the chief of its mortar brigade, were killed in the attack. SANA said two other notable terrorists were also among those killed while mortar launchers and machine gun-equipped vehicles belonging to the group were destroyed during the attack.

Syria has been the scene of a foreign-backed crisis since early 2011.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
