TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies stepped up their attacks on positions of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in the provinces of Deir ez-Zor and Homs, killing and injuring large groups of them.

Syrian forces on Tuesday targeted the gathering centers of Daesh terrorists in the areas of al-Jafra, al-Husseinieh, al-Bghilieh, al-Bo Omar, al-Abd, Hawijet al-Mriaia and al-Tharda in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, inflicting heavy losses and casualties on them.

A number of the militants’ vehicles were also destroyed in the clashes, Syria’s official news agency, SANA, reported.

Separately, Syria’s government forces launched an operation against Daesh terrorists in the ancient city of Palmyra, Homs province, killing more than 15 militants in the areas of Fourth Station and al-Fawarah.

Syria has been the scene of a foreign-backed crisis since early 2011.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
