Bahraini Opposition Parties Call for Mass Anti-Regime Rally

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A number of major opposition political parties in Bahrain have called for a nationwide rally across the Persian Gulf country following the execution of three young activists by the ruling Al Khalifa regime, a report said.

Major opposition political groups in Bahrain, including Coalition Youth of 14 February Revolution, Youth of Diraz, the Islamic Action Society, and Al-Wafa'a Islamic Party on Sunday called on the Bahraini nation to take to the streets and voice their anger at the execution of three Shiite activists by the Manama regime.

The Al Khalifa regime on Sunday executed three anti-regime activists over their alleged role in a 2014 bomb attack, amid widespread public anger against the death verdicts.

The opposition parties vehemently condemned the move by the regime as well, saying that the overthrow of the ruling al-Khalifa regime is a public demand in Bahrain.

The executions of the activists sparked nationwide protests on Sunday after outraged public marched across the capital Manama and the northeastern villages of Nuwaidrat and al-Dair.

On January 9, Bahrain’s Court of Cassation upheld the death penalties given to Sami Mushaima, Abbas Jamil Tahir al-Sami’ and Ali Abdulshahid al-Singace over allegations of killing a member of Emirati forces who had been assisting Manama in its suppression of Bahraini protesters in the northern village of al-Daih back in March 2014. Seven other convicts have also been sentenced to life in prison in the case.

The defendants had denied the charges.
