Iran Condemns Last Week's Terror Attack in Afghanistan’s Kandahar

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned a recent terrorist attack in Afghanistan’s southern city of Kandahar which killed and injured a number of Emirati diplomats and Afghan citizens.

In a statement released late on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi offered his deep condolences to the governments of Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates as well as the bereaved families of victims of the “tragic incident”.

"Terrorism is the most significant security problem in the region and the world, which has indiscriminately targeted peace and security of countries and nations,” he noted.

The Iranian spokesman further called for international cooperation and all-out efforts by regional and international countries to end the phenomenon.

Afghan officials said Last Tuesday that the explosion killed at least seven people and wounded 18 others, including the ambassador.

According to a statement by the UAE foreign ministry, the UAE ambassador to Afghanistan has been injured in the bomb attack.

"(The ministry) is following the heinous terrorist attack on the guesthouse of the Kandahar governor which resulted in the injury of Juma Mohammed Abdullah al-Kaabi, UAE Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and a number of Emirati diplomats," the statement said.

The victims also included the deputy governor of Kandahar.

The explosion came on the same day that at least 38 people were killed and 72 others injured in twin bomb attacks in a crowded area near Afghanistan’s parliament in the capital city of Kabul.
