Turkey Condoles with Iran on Building Collapse

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu sent a letter of condolence to his Iranian counterpart over the collapse of a blazing building in Tehran, in which more than 20 firemen are feared dead.

In a message to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Friday, the top Turkish diplomat expressed his condolences over the tragic collapse of the Plasco building in Tehran.

Offering the Turkish government and nation’s sympathy with the Iranian people, Cavusoglu paid tribute to the martyrs in the incident and wished speedy recovery for the injured.

One day after the collapse of the high-rise building in downtown Tehran, rescue teams continue searching for the firefighters trapped under the rubble.

On Friday morning, a firefighter who had been admitted to hospital with serious burns succumbed to his injuries.

According to mayor of Tehran, between 20 to 25 people are believed to have been trapped under the rubble.

A massive fire broke out in the top stories of the building at around 8 a.m. on Thursday morning, and the whole building crumpled to the ground four hours later.

The 17-story structure was inaugurated in 1962 and named after a plastics manufacturing company. It was the tallest building in the city at the time of its construction. It included shopping centers and clothing workshops.
