Syrian PM: Military Action Sole Way to Defeat Terrorists
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Prime Minister of Syria Imad Khamis referred to military operation as the only option for fighting off the terrorist groups that have been wreaking mayhem on the Arab country for six years.
In a meeting with Head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran's Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati in Tehran, Khamis emphasized that his government thinks of no other option than military action against the terrorist groups.
He also expressed the hope that an upcoming round of political negotiations in Kazakhstan would yield results that will serve the interests of the Syrian nation.
The visiting Syrian premier further hailed Iran and Russia for contributing to the Astana talks.
Diplomatic efforts to end fighting in Syria have gained momentum in recent weeks with the announcement of a ceasefire in the Arab country earlier this month.
The truce, which has been negotiated between Russia, Iran, Turkey, the Damascus government and the Syrian opposition, excludes terrorist groups such as Daesh and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham.
It will be followed by a new round of peace talks between the Syrian government and foreign-sponsored opposition groups in Astana on January 23.
