Syria Army Regains Key Hilltop in Homs

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies seized control of a strategic hilltop in the central province of Homs after inflicting major losses on Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists.

On Saturday, Syrian troops wrested control of al-Tayyas hilltop in the T4 area in the eastern countryside of Homs province, Syria’s official news agency, SANA, reported.

The recapture of the hill resulted in the deaths of large groups of Daesh terrorists and destruction of their vehicles.

In a separate development, the Syrian government forces on Saturday advanced into al-Maqaber region in the western province of Deir ez-Zor, leaving scores of Daesh militants dead and injured.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
