Syrian Adviser: Trump Incapable of Managing US Affairs
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior adviser to Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis questioned recent remarks made by Donald Trump during his swearing-in as the 45th president of the US, saying that he is unable to manage his country’s affairs.
“Regarding the (new) US administration and Donald Trump’s (inaugural) speech, I believe that his personality is not one made for taking decisions in the US,” Abdul-Qader Azouz, who is also a professor of politics, told Tasnim.
He also cast doubt over Trump’s ability to run US affairs given his limited political experience.
He further pointed to Trump’s remarks on counter-terrorism and said a question that has been raised is whether his planned campaign against terrorism will come within the framework of US support for wars and conflicts in other countries.
In his first address as the 45th president of the US, Trump echoed his harsh stance against terrorist groups in Syria, including Daesh (ISIL or ISIS).
“We will ... unite the civilized world against radical Islamic terrorism which we will eradicate completely from the face of the earth,” he said during the Inaugural Address on Friday.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
