Iran: Saudi FM’s Claims Another Attempt to Divert Attention from Riyadh’s Crimes

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry dismissed as baseless recent allegations leveled against Tehran by Saudi foreign minister, saying the diplomat is trying to divert public attention away from the Riyadh regime’s role in spreading extremism in the Middle East.

“These allegations are an attempt to misrepresent the reality in the region,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said Tuesday in response to Adel al-Jubeir’s recent claims about what he called Iran’s interference in other countries’ internal affairs.

“It is Saudi Arabia that has been the breeding ground for emergence and growth of terrorism in the region over the past years,” Qassemi said.

The persistent attempts by Jubeir to divert attention from Saudi crimes cannot clean the Al Saud’s history of extremism and spreading deviant schools of thought in the Arab kingdom, the spokesman added.

Qassemi further pointed to the Saudi war on Yemen, noting that the Riyadh regime has been carrying out acts of aggression and committed war crimes against the “defenseless people” of the Arabian Peninsula country for nearly two years.

Speaking at a joint press conference with French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault in Riyadh on Tuesday, Jubeir claimed that Iran’s meddling in the internal affairs of the countries in the Middle East was the root cause of regional distress and instability.
