Moldovan President, Iranian FM Hold Talks in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of Moldova Igor Dodon and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed a range of bilateral and international issues at a meeting in Tehran on Sunday.

The meeting, held at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, revolved around ways to strengthen the relations between Tehran and Chisinau.

The visiting European president and Iran’s top diplomat also discussed closer mutual cooperation in diverse areas, such as the energy industry, transportation, banking services, and agriculture.

They also explored avenues for easing visa restrictions for travelers between Iran and Moldova.

The latest regional and international developments were another topic discussed in the diplomatic meeting, which also included a luncheon.

In October 2016, at a meeting with Moldova’s accredited ambassador to Tehran, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underscored that the Islamic Republic sees no obstacles to enhanced relations with the East European nation.

Moldova is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, bordered by Romania and Ukraine. It declared independence in August 1991, after dissolution of the Soviet Union.
