Floods, Blizzard, Dust Storm, Extreme Cold Bring Much of Iran to Standstill

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Serious flooding in southern Iran, blizzard with strong winds in northwest, and heavy snowfalls with freezing temperatures in the north have shut down many cities and villages, stranded thousands of travelers, and made rescue teams take immediate action to save lives.

Society/Culture

Heavy rain over the past days has led to serious flooding in Iran’s southern provinces of Fars and Bushehr.

In the meantime, dust particles have paralyzed border cities in the western province of Ilam.

Elsewhere in the northwest, heavy snowfalls have made the roads impassable, while blinding blizzards have blanketed the northern provinces of Mazandaran, Alborz and Semnan.

Sub-zero temperatures have also caused low gas pressure in the northern provinces.

In the southeastern province of Kerman, heavy rainfall has caused concern about the situation of dams.

Iran's Red Crescent Society said it has provided relief aid for more than 47,000 people in 11 provinces across the country.

81 vehicles stuck in the snow and flooding have been saved by the rescue teams in the past two days.
