EU’s Mogherini Calls JCPOA ‘Stabilizing Factor’

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini called on all sides to the 2015 nuclear deal to honor their commitments under the agreement and fully implement it, describing the JCPOA as a stabilizing factor.

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the sidelines of the 53rd edition of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) in Germany, Mogherini urged all sides to firmly stick to their commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France, and Germany) reached the nuclear deal in July 2015 and implemented it in January last year.

Mogherini added that the deal is delivering on its objectives and underscored the need for a full and effective implementation by all sides throughout the lifetime of the agreement, according to the official website of the EU.

“The JCPOA is a stabilizing factor and a key part of non-proliferation architecture and has to be kept and thoroughly implemented,” further said.

The top Iranian diplomat is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Munich Security Conference on Sunday morning.

Since its foundation five decades ago, the MSC has become a leading international platform for dialogue on foreign and security policy.

In addition to its annual flagship conference, the MSC regularly convenes high-profile events on particular topics and regions and publishes the Munich Security Report.
